Since 1976, Shaker Square Area Development Corporation has been representing the neighborhoods of the Shaker Square Area. Best described as small town feeling in a cosmopolitan setting, Shaker Square Area neighborhoods are rich in diversity: racially, economically and socially. The neighborhoods offer a variety of housing options from single family to vertical living.

Shaker Square

Access to downtown Cleveland and Tower City is only 15 minutes via Rapid Transit.

Shaker Square is only ten minutes by car or bus to world-renowned University Circle, home to University Hospitals and the Cleveland Clinic, as well as Case Western Reserve University, the Cleveland Institute of Art, and the Cleveland Institute of Music.

Larchmere Boulevard

Larchmere offers a variety of housing options and schools as well as the Benjamin Rose Institute on Aging and Fairhill Partners – resources for senior services.

Housing stock is a mixture of single-family, “Cleveland Doubles” with their distinctive two-story front porches, apartments and condominiums. The Larchmere Community Association (LCA) is an active community association that meets on the first Wednesday of the month at 7 p.m. at Fairhill Partners, 12200 Fairhill Road.

Buckeye Road

Located south of Shaker Square, this neighborhood was historically an Hungarian and Slovak community.

It’s anchored by Saint Elizabeth Hungarian Catholic Church, Buckeye Plaza and the EDWINS Leadership & Restaurant complex that includes its bakery, butcher shop and diner. It is served by Burten, Bell, Carr Development Inc.

Condo Corridor

East of Shaker Square along Shaker Boulevard, there are approximately 400 condominiums owned by residents of Cleveland in three complexes. 

On the north side of the Boulevard is Moreland Courts, an English-style landmark listed on the National Register of Historic Places with nearly 150 units. 

On the south side of the street is the approximately 150-unit Shaker Courts Condominium Association, which consists of seven World War II-era buildings. 

The third condo building, with about 90 units, is Shaker Towers is a slightly more modern building 12 story building. Together, the nearly 1000 residents living in the Condo Corridor enjoy collaborating with the Shaker Square community.

CHALK

Named for the streets—Cormere, Haddam, Ardoon, Larchmere, Kemper—CHALK is a community of comfortable colonial homes just north of Shaker Square.

They are in the Shaker School system. The community celebrates Memorial Day each year with an organized potluck picnic. In 2008, they added an Easter egg hunt for the youngsters.

Ludlow

The Ludlow Community Association (LCA) is an historic community that encompasses both Cleveland and Shaker Heights within the Shaker Heights School District. Ludlow is bounded by South Moreland, Van Aken Boulevard, Drexmore Road, Onaway Road and Livingston Road.

The LCA meetings are held at the Positive Education Program (PEP) School, formerly Ludlow Elementary School on Southington Road, the original focal point of the community, on the third Wednesday of each month, at 7 p.m.

Drexmore/Chadbourne

Surrounding Plymouth Church, this neighborhood is composed of the Cleveland portion of these two streets.

They are in the Shaker Heights School system. Drexmore/Chadbourne is part of the broader Boulevard Community Association.

Apartment Corridor

There are more than 4000 apartment and condominium units located in the Shaker Square area. Many of the apartment and condo buildings offer distinctive architectural details as well as hardwood floors and leaded glass windows.

The variety of housing options available throughout the Apartment and Condo Corridors meets a range of needs, from the young person looking for their first apartment to empty nesters interested in downsizing to a condo.
