Shaker Square Collaborative provides the leadership, advocacy, and community action needed to support well-maintained, economically strong, and connected neighborhoods.
With a diverse membership of over 300 individuals, families, and businesses, Shaker Square Collaborative works to strengthen commercial districts and foster neighborhood pride across the Shaker Square area.
Community Pride & Collaboration
We foster connection, engagement, and pride among residents, businesses, and neighborhood partners.
Neighborhood Advocacy
We advocate for safe, diverse, and welcoming neighborhoods throughout the Shaker Square and Larchmere communities.
Housing Preservation
We support the long-term preservation and stability of more than 4,000 apartment and condominium units in the area.
Homeownership & Maintenance
We promote responsible homeownership and ongoing property care to strengthen neighborhood stability.
Commercial Revitalization
We work to strengthen Shaker Square as a thriving regional destination for shopping, dining, and business.
Historic & Green Space Preservation
We protect and enhance the area’s landmark architecture, public spaces, and green spaces.
Safety & Quality of Life
We address security and environmental concerns to improve everyday neighborhood living.
Communication & Connection
We share neighborhood news and updates through The Connection and digital communications.
Current Collaboration Efforts
A part of SHAD’s mission is to assist residents with housing and help the neighborhoods it serves improve its landscape and business initiatives. In the past SHAD has been integral in working with city leaders and civic organizations for a variety of initiatives such as the redesign of Sunbeam School, the Larchmere Boulevard Streetscape and the blight reduction at East 130th Street and Drexmore Road. Below are examples of recent projects that SHAD spearheaded.
Annual Community Beacon Award
2026 Launch, honoring lasting community Impact.
Honors a business, organization, or service initiative whose work has made a meaningful and lasting impact within the footprint. This award recognizes those whose efforts go beyond routine operations to strengthen neighborhoods, support residents, foster connection, and contribute to the overall well-being and vitality of the Shaker Square Area neighborhoods.
Whether through service, outreach, investment, leadership, or consistent community engagement, the recipient exemplifies a commitment to making the community stronger, more connected, and more vibrant.

Light Up Larchmere
SHAD leadership, along with community volunteers, plant flowers in the large planters in each of the quads around the Square.
The large, red planters appeared during the RNC in 2016 and were generously donated to Shaker Square by the City of Cleveland.
The SHAD Connection
Shaker Square Area Development Corporation publishes this award-winning, neighborhood newspaper on a quarterly basis.
With a circulation of 7,500, The Connection updates the community on neighborhood activities and assistance programs, and helps promote the desirability of living, working, and shopping in our neighborhoods.
Larchmere Merchant Association
Shaker Square Area Development Corporation serves as the administrative agency for the Larchmere Merchants Association.
This Association coordinates the marketing and promotion of the Larchmere Blvd. commercial district, sponsors special events, and responds to issues that affect the vitality of the street.
Moreland Group
This group was formed by community residents who met with Shaker Square Alliance (Organize!Ohio) to help stabilize apartment buildings around the Square.
Currently, its focus is on negligent property owners on North Moreland and South Moreland Boulevards.
The group works with city officials and community groups such as SHAD for better enforcement of building and housing codes in this historic landmark district.
Unifying Greater Buckeye Network
The Shaker Square Collaborative is working with Case Western Reserve University’s Mandel School of Applied Social Sciences in its Demonstration Zone model, led by Unify Buckeye.
